About the PEACES Collective

The PEACES Collective, founded in 2018, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to community development and supporting local businesses. The PEACES Collective’s mission is to embrace and promote our heritage as Makers, to help build thriving communities through collective economics and education.

About SpREAD the Word

Spread the Word logo.png

SpREAD the Word aims to promote reading, learning, and positive social growth through culturally and developmentally appropriate literacy programming for children and their caregivers. Disturbingly, the National Assessment of Educational
Progress (NAEP) report that only 33% of 4th graders, 31% of 8th graders and 37% of 12th graders in public schools can read at or above proficient standards. For Black students that percentage drops to approximately 16%.

Our SpREAD the Word initiative encourages reading by creating a cadre of volunteers who engage young learners in reading and writing activities. The initiative offers a series of integrated literacy "fests" focused on the 4Cs of literacy – Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. Activities for parents and children include:

ðŸ“š  Developing and conducting a series of SpREAD the Word Forums and Workshops with early learning, elementary school, and community-based programs that encourage parents to establish home libraries and read to their children.

ðŸ“š  Hosting SpREAD the Word Reading Festivals to cultivate a passion for reading and learning at an early age, including book distribution, interactive story-telling, and hands-on workshops.

ðŸ“š  Installing SpREAD the Word Mini Libraries at informal settings such as barbershops, salons, and other community-based groups to encourage personal and social reading by children and adults.
