Welcome and thank you for your interest in Walking for Wellness!

​

Walking is one of the best ways to maintain your health. Just 30 minutes every day can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance. It can also reduce your risk of developing such conditions as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and some cancers. Walking with a friend or a team provides an opportunity to socialize and encourage one another.

On Saturday, June 15, and Wednesday, June 19, 2024, The PEACES Collective will host its 4th Annual Juneteenth 5k Walk for Wellness.  

 

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people of African descent in the United States.  Now a national federal holiday, it is observed on the anniversary of the announcement by the Union Army on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom from slavery in Texas, 2 ½ years after the emancipation proclamation was issued.

TPC started this 5K for three reasons. First, we want to promote wellness in our community. Second, we need to acknowledge the struggle and work done by those who came before us. Third, we aim to raise funds for our Wisdom, Wellness & Wealth free monthly online events that disseminate relevant and timely information to our communities to help continue the journey toward freedom, justice, and equality.
