Walking is one of the best ways to maintain your health. Just 30 minutes every day can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance. It can also reduce your risk of developing such conditions as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and some cancers. Walking with a friend or a team provides an opportunity to socialize and encourage one another.
TPC Juneteenth 5K Walk for Wellness
On Sunday, June 18, and Monday, June 19, 2023, The PEACES Collective will host its 3rd Annual Juneteenth 5k Walk for Wellness.
Juneteenth is a commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved people of African descent in the United Stated. Now a national federal holiday, it is observed on the anniversary of the announcement by the Union Army on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom from slavery in Texas, 2 ½ years after the emancipation proclamation was issued.
TPC started this 5K for three reasons. First, to promote wellness in our community. Second, to acknowledge the struggle and work done by those that came before us. And third, to raise funds for our Wisdom, Wellness & Wealth free monthly online events that disseminate relevant and timely information to our communities to help continue the journey toward freedom, justice and equality.

TPC Weekly Walk for Wellness
Join us for the PEACES Collective Weekly Walk for Wellness. Our goal for the weekly walks are to strengthen the community and support our commitment to health and well-being. Along with the physical health benefits of walking that strengthen our cardiovascular system and tones our muscles, walking together shares the conversation of good fellowship while enjoying the splendor of nature.
The PEACES Collective’s weekly walks meet every Sunday 7:30 am – 9:00 am at one of the various parks and walking trails in Columbia, Maryland. The walk program is virtual. If you are not in our local area, please walk at a location near you with family and friends in your neighborhood. We invite you to express solidarity with this walking mission by sharing your pictures, experiences and tips on our social media pages.
Each month, our walking location will be posted in Event Brite and our website: www.thepeacescollective.org. Register, and we will send you our monthly walking calendar.

We appreciate and acknowledge other organizations working for wellness in our community. Shout out to Girl Trek for inspiring a million sisters to focus on our health and start walking. We are also inspired by their demonstration of what can be accomplished through walking, love and commitment.
