MAKER BIO

IQRAMA MUHAMMAD

After working decades in the corporate arena, I committed myself to helping build strong communities and transitioned from corporate offices and business trips to sewing rooms and craft markets.  I began my new life by reaching back to a skill first taught to me by my grandmother, the time-honored tradition of sewing. Every year the average consumer throws away 70 pounds of clothing.  Globally we produce 13 million tons of textile waste annually, 95% of which could be reused or recycled.  “Waste not!  Want not!” At PEACES we re-fashion new and used fabrics that might otherwise be discarded, into restored and restyled tote bags and accessories.  Our mission is to create sustainable markets and systems for handcrafted goods that contribute to the economic, social, and human development of women and girls.  We believe that all things have value when united for a useful, productive, and peaceful purpose.
